SUKKUR (Bureau Report): The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) has foiled an alleged interprovincial drug-smuggling attempt in Sukkur, recovering 49.4 kilograms of narcotics concealed in secret compartments of an ambulance and arresting a suspected key member of a drug-smuggling network.
According to the ANF spokesperson, the force received intelligence that smugglers were attempting to transport a large quantity of drugs from Balochistan to Sindh by using an ambulance as a cover.
Acting on the intelligence, ANF personnel conducted an intelligence-based operation on Shikarpur Road in Sukkur after maintaining surveillance of the suspected vehicle.
During a search of the ambulance, officials discovered specially constructed hidden compartments containing 36 kilograms of hashish and 13.4 kilograms of ice. The total quantity of recovered narcotics was 49.4 kilograms.
The ANF arrested Liaquat Ali, a resident of Shikarpur, who was allegedly involved in the interprovincial drug-smuggling operation.
Initial investigations indicate that the recovered narcotics were being transported from Balochistan to Sindh. However, officials are continuing their investigation to determine the final destination of the drugs and identify other individuals allegedly involved in the network.
The ANF spokesperson said a case had been registered against the arrested suspect under the relevant provisions of the Anti-Narcotics Act. Further interrogation is underway to trace the alleged facilitators and other members of the drug-smuggling network.
The spokesperson expressed serious concern over the alleged use of an ambulance, a vehicle intended to provide essential emergency services, for transporting narcotics. He said such criminal activity could not only facilitate drug trafficking but could also create doubts among the public about the legitimate use of ambulances during emergencies.
According to the ANF, the successful operation was made possible through its intelligence network, continued surveillance and effective operational strategy.
The force reiterated its commitment to taking indiscriminate action against drug trafficking and those involved in the illegal narcotics trade across the country.
The ANF further stated that operations against drug smugglers would continue with greater effectiveness under its mission to make Pakistan free from narcotics and bring those involved in the illegal trade to justice.
