Islamabad: The Supreme Court has summoned the Inspector General of Sindh over delays in registering murder cases.
A hearing was held regarding delays in the registration of murder cases. The court ordered the Sindh IGP to appear in person at the next hearing.
The court also summoned the Sindh Advocate General and Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Sukkur.
During the hearing, Justice Hashim Kakar expressed strong concern over the performance of the Sindh police. He said that there appeared to be little concept of punishment and accountability in the province.
Justice Kakar said that in the case being heard by the court, a murder case was registered two days after the killing. He also said that police in many cases were reluctant to register cases.
The judge criticized the police for failing to take timely action and said that such delays could prevent victims and their families from receiving justice.
Justice Salahuddin also expressed concern about the law-and-order situation in Sukkur and Larkana, saying that the situation in both areas was particularly poor.
The Supreme Court directed the relevant officials to appear at the next hearing and explain the reasons for delays in registering murder cases.
The court subsequently adjourned further proceedings until September 21.
