Five workers were killed and another was injured after unidentified terrorists opened fire on laborers engaged in road construction work in Pishin district of Balochistan.
According to officials, the incident took place in the Saranan Bazaar area of Pishin, where the workers were carrying out construction activities on a road project. The attackers reportedly opened fire on the laborers, killing five of them and injuring another.
The attack also targeted construction machinery at the site. Officials said the militants damaged the equipment used for the road construction project, causing additional losses.
The incident has raised fresh concerns over the security of workers involved in development projects in Balochistan, where militant attacks have periodically targeted civilians, security personnel and infrastructure.
Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti strongly condemned the attack and expressed sorrow over the deaths of the workers. He described the victims as innocent Pakistanis who had once again been targeted by terrorism.
Bugti said the laborers were working to earn a livelihood for their families while also contributing to the development and progress of the country and the province.
The chief minister expressed sympathy with the families of the deceased and condemned the killing of workers who were engaged in a development project. He stressed that terrorism would not be allowed to undermine peace and development efforts in Balochistan.
The injured worker was taken for medical treatment, while authorities launched an investigation into the attack. Security personnel also began efforts to determine the identity and whereabouts of those responsible.
The killing of the laborers has once again highlighted the vulnerability of civilian workers involved in construction and infrastructure projects in areas affected by militant violence.
