The Iranian Parliament has declared the armed forces of European Union countries as terrorist groups.
According to foreign news agencies, this move is in response to the European Union’s designation of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization.
During the parliamentary session, members wore the IRGC’s green uniforms to show solidarity with the corps.
Footage broadcast on Iranian state television showed members chanting slogans such as “Death to America,” “Death to Israel,” and “Shame on Europe.”
Calling the EU’s decision an “irresponsible act,” Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said, “Under Article 7 of the law concerning retaliatory measures against the designation of the IRGC as a terrorist organization, the armed forces of European countries will be considered a terrorist group.”
According to the news agency, it is not yet clear what immediate impact this decision will have. The law was first passed in 2019 when the U.S. designated the IRGC as a terrorist organization.
Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf further stated that the Parliament’s National Security Committee will consider the matter of expelling military attachés from European countries and will coordinate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in this regard.
According to the news agency, today’s parliamentary session was held on the occasion of the 47th anniversary of the return of Ayatollah Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Revolution, from exile.
