WhatsApp is working on developing a subscription plan based on a monthly fee to provide access to additional features.
According to a report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is currently working on this optional subscription plan.
Under this subscription plan, users will be given access to exclusive features that will not be available to others.
The subscription plan was discovered in a new beta version of WhatsApp for Android devices.
The report stated that subscribers will be offered special features tailored to their needs.
Earlier reports had revealed that Meta was testing new subscription services across Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp.
Now, the latest report says that along with the subscription plan, WhatsApp is also testing a new app icon customization feature, allowing users to customize the WhatsApp icon on their home screen.
In addition, subscribers will have access to other useful features, such as the ability to pin more than three chats.
Currently, WhatsApp only allows users to pin up to three chats.
At this stage, it is difficult to say when the subscription service will be officially launched.
The subscription fee has not yet been disclosed and will likely vary from country to country.
The important point is that the subscription service will be optional, while basic features such as messaging, voice and video calling, and end-to-end encryption will continue to be available for free.
