Google Maps has rolled out a significant redesign of its Settings page for Android users, marking the first major update to the feature in several years. The new layout is currently available to a limited group of users as part of a gradual rollout.
According to a report by 9to5Google, the redesigned Settings page offers a clearer and more organized interface. The page is now divided into seven main categories:
- Apps & Display
- Navigation
- Your Vehicles
- Location & Privacy
- Offline Maps
- Notifications
- About & Terms
One of the notable improvements is the addition of a Sign Out button, which was previously difficult to access, requiring users to scroll down extensively to log out. The new placement makes it more convenient and user-friendly.
The navigation experience within the Settings page has also been updated. Previously, users had to tap a back arrow located in the top-left corner to exit the page; the redesigned interface now features an “X” mark in the top-right corner, allowing users to close the Settings page more quickly.
Additionally, some settings options have been reorganized to improve accessibility, although many features remain the same as before. The overall redesign is intended to make the Settings page more intuitive, faster to navigate, and visually clearer for users.
This update reflects Google’s efforts to modernize its interface and improve user experience, addressing longstanding complaints about the complexity and accessibility of the Maps Settings page. Users can expect incremental improvements as Google gradually extends the new design to all Android users.
