Karachi: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has released its latest weather forecast for Karachi, stating that the city is expected to experience dry conditions over the next 24 hours, with cooler temperatures particularly noticeable during nighttime.
According to the Met Office, Karachi’s weather will remain generally stable, with no chances of rainfall during the forecast period. Residents can expect clear to partly clear skies, while the overall atmosphere is likely to stay dry. The department has advised citizens to prepare for slightly chilly conditions during the late night and early morning hours, especially in open or coastal areas.
The PMD forecast indicates that the minimum temperature in Karachi over the next 24 hours is expected to range between 12 and 14 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, the maximum temperature is likely to remain between 24 and 26 degrees Celsius, keeping daytime conditions relatively pleasant and mild. Weather experts say this temperature range is typical for Karachi during the winter season, particularly when continental air is prevailing over the region.
In its report, the Meteorological Department also shared details of the past 24 hours’ weather conditions. During this period, the lowest temperature recorded in the city was 14.2 degrees Celsius. This reflects a gradual dip in temperatures compared to previous days, reinforcing expectations of cooler nights in the coming days.
Humidity levels in the city are currently reported at around 63 percent. Meteorologists explain that moderate humidity, combined with lower nighttime temperatures, can increase the feeling of cold, especially after sunset. As a result, residents may feel chillier than what the actual temperature suggests, particularly in the early morning hours.
Wind conditions in Karachi are also playing a role in shaping the city’s weather. According to the PMD, northeasterly winds are blowing across the city at a speed of approximately 11 kilometers per hour. These winds are contributing to the dry and cool conditions, as they carry relatively colder air into the region.
Weather analysts note that the continuation of northeasterly winds often brings clearer skies and reduced moisture, which helps maintain dry weather patterns. However, these winds can also make nighttime temperatures feel colder, especially in areas closer to the coastline where wind exposure is higher.
The PMD has not issued any weather warnings for Karachi at this time, indicating that no extreme or hazardous conditions are expected during the next 24 hours. Nonetheless, citizens are advised to take precautionary measures, particularly during nighttime and early morning hours. Elderly individuals, children, and those sensitive to cold weather are encouraged to wear warm clothing to avoid health issues related to lower temperatures.
In recent days, the Meteorological Department has also hinted at a further drop in temperatures during the upcoming weekend. Some forecasts suggest that nighttime temperatures could fall even more, potentially approaching single-digit levels in certain parts of Sindh, although Karachi is expected to remain slightly warmer due to its coastal location.
Health experts often recommend staying adequately hydrated during dry weather conditions, as low humidity can lead to dry skin, throat irritation, and respiratory discomfort. Residents are also advised to limit exposure to cold winds during late-night hours and to ensure proper ventilation indoors without allowing excessive cold air to enter.
For daily commuters, the current weather conditions are considered favorable, as dry and clear weather reduces the likelihood of traffic disruptions caused by rain or fog. However, early morning commuters should remain cautious, as cooler temperatures can sometimes lead to reduced visibility in isolated areas, particularly near highways or open grounds.
Fishermen and coastal communities have also been advised to remain aware of wind conditions. While the current wind speed is not considered dangerous, changes in wind direction or intensity can impact sea conditions. The PMD regularly updates marine forecasts to ensure the safety of those working along the coast.
Overall, Karachi is set to enjoy pleasant winter weather over the next 24 hours, characterized by mild days and cool nights. The absence of rain and extreme conditions means that routine activities can continue without disruption, though residents should remain mindful of the seasonal chill.
