Karachi South District Police have arrested three suspects following an encounter in the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Phase 7 Extension area, near Shaukat Khanum Hospital. The arrests were made during routine patrolling by police officials, who acted swiftly to prevent the suspects from escaping and to ensure public safety.
According to a statement issued by the Spokesperson of the SSP South District Police, the incident took place on January 5, 2025, when personnel from Defence Police Station were on patrol in the area. During the patrol, police officers noticed suspicious individuals and signaled them to stop for checking. Instead of complying, the suspects allegedly opened fire on the police party in an attempt to flee.
Police officials responded promptly and effectively, managing to control the situation without sustaining any injuries. As a result of the timely and professional response, all three suspects were arrested without any casualties. The police confirmed that no officer or civilian was harmed during the encounter.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Danish son of Sohail Ahmed, Nihal alias Sonu son of Shafee, and Sohail alias Sohaila son of Derek. Law enforcement authorities stated that the suspects were wanted in multiple criminal cases and had been on police records prior to their arrest.
During a search of the suspects, police recovered a significant quantity of stolen and illegal items. These included one Suzuki 110 motorcycle bearing registration number KKG-9427, two 9mm pistols along with six live rounds, four stolen touchscreen mobile phones, one bracelet, and one black-colored purse.
Further inspection of the recovered purse led to the discovery of original national identity cards (CNICs) belonging to different individuals, along with other important documents. Police believe these items were looted during previous street crime incidents, including mobile snatching and robbery.
Initial investigations revealed that the arrested suspects were allegedly involved in multiple criminal activities, including street crimes, armed robbery, and illegal possession of weapons. Police officials stated that the suspects were already wanted in various cases registered at different police stations, and their arrest is considered a significant development in ongoing efforts to curb street crime in Karachi’s South District.
Authorities have also initiated verification of the suspects’ previous criminal records to determine the full extent of their involvement in past crimes. Police said that further interrogation is underway to identify additional accomplices, recover more stolen property, and establish links with other criminal networks operating in the city.
Senior police officials praised the performance of the patrolling team, stating that such operations are part of a broader strategy to enhance security in sensitive areas of Karachi. “Routine patrols and snap checking play a crucial role in preventing crime and ensuring the safety of citizens. This successful action reflects the commitment of Karachi South Police to maintaining law and order,” the spokesperson said.
Residents of the Defence area welcomed the police action and expressed hope that continued vigilance would help reduce incidents of street crime, which have been a growing concern in several parts of the city. Local community members emphasized the importance of sustained patrolling and intelligence-based operations to restore public confidence.
The Karachi South District Police have reiterated their resolve to take strict action against criminals and urged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by reporting suspicious activities. Police officials also advised the public to remain vigilant, especially in high-traffic and residential areas, and to use official helplines in case of emergencies.
The arrested suspects are being shifted to the police station, where legal proceedings are underway. Relevant cases are being registered under applicable sections of the law, and the recovered weapons and stolen items have been taken into police custody as evidence.
The SSP South Police Media Cell stated that operations against criminal elements will continue across the district and that no leniency will be shown toward individuals involved in activities that threaten public safety.
