In a tragic incident at Burzil Pass in Gilgit-Baltistan, three individuals, including a captain and a soldier, lost their lives after a massive chunk of snow fell during an ice-clearing operation. The Pakistan Army’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed the casualties and provided details of the event.

According to ISPR, the operation was being conducted under the supervision of Captain Asmad on the night of January 3, around 2:00 AM, when a snow slab unexpectedly collapsed. The avalanche struck the team involved in clearing snow for operational movement in the area, leading to the deaths of three personnel.

The deceased have been identified as Captain Asmad, Sepoy Rizwan, and machine operator Isa. Captain Asmad, aged 28, hailed from Lahore, while Sepoy Rizwan was from Attock, and Isa, the machine operator, was a resident of Astor.

ISPR stated that despite immediate and strenuous rescue efforts, all three were found under the fallen snow in critical condition and succumbed to their injuries. The tragic incident underscores the risks faced by army personnel working in high-altitude regions, particularly during severe winter conditions.

The Pakistan Army acknowledged the bravery and dedication of the three personnel, emphasizing that they laid down their lives to ensure the operational movement of forces under harsh and dangerous weather conditions. Their sacrifice has been recognized as a testament to their courage and commitment to duty.
