Sargodha: At least four people lost their lives and ten others were injured when a passenger van crashed into a tree in Sargodha, according to rescue and police officials. The tragic accident occurred near Green House Jhal Chakiyan, leaving the local community in shock and grief.

Rescue authorities said the incident took place when the passenger van, carrying several travelers, veered off the road and collided forcefully with a roadside tree. The impact of the crash was severe, resulting in instant fatalities and multiple injuries among the passengers. Eyewitnesses reported that the van appeared badly damaged following the collision, indicating the intensity of the accident.

Upon receiving information about the crash, Rescue 1122 teams rushed to the scene. Emergency responders carried out relief operations, carefully removing the injured and retrieving the bodies of the deceased from the wreckage. The injured passengers were provided with first aid at the site before being shifted to nearby hospitals for further medical treatment. Rescue officials confirmed that several of the injured are in critical condition, while others are stable.

According to rescue sources, four people were pronounced dead as a result of the accident, while ten sustained injuries of varying severity. The exact cause of the crash has not yet been officially determined, but preliminary assessments suggest that overspeeding, driver negligence, or loss of control could have contributed to the incident. Police have launched an investigation to ascertain the circumstances leading to the fatal collision.

Police officials in Sargodha revealed a particularly heartbreaking detail, stating that among the deceased were two women and a young girl belonging to the same family. The loss of multiple members of a single family in one accident has intensified the tragedy and added to the sorrow felt by relatives and the wider community. Family members of the victims were seen arriving at the hospital in distress, mourning the sudden and unexpected loss of their loved ones.

Local residents gathered near the accident site soon after the incident, expressing concern over road safety in the area. Some residents claimed that the road near Green House Jhal Chakiyan is prone to accidents due to poor visibility, lack of proper signage, and high vehicle speeds. They urged the authorities to take immediate measures to improve road safety and prevent similar tragedies in the future.

Hospital sources confirmed that emergency wards were put on alert following the arrival of the injured passengers. Doctors and medical staff worked to provide timely treatment, while relatives anxiously awaited updates on the condition of their loved ones. Authorities have not yet released the identities of the deceased, pending notification of their families.

Traffic police officials stated that the passenger van was likely carrying more people than its seating capacity, which may have worsened the consequences of the crash. Overloading of passenger vehicles remains a persistent issue on highways and rural roads across Punjab, often leading to fatal accidents. Officials reiterated the need for strict enforcement of traffic laws to curb such practices.

This incident once again highlights the growing concern over road safety in Pakistan, where traffic accidents claim thousands of lives every year. Factors such as reckless driving, poor vehicle maintenance, inadequate road infrastructure, and weak enforcement of traffic regulations continue to contribute to the high number of road fatalities. Authorities have repeatedly emphasized the importance of responsible driving and adherence to safety rules, yet accidents of this nature remain alarmingly frequent.

Provincial authorities have taken notice of the incident, and senior officials are expected to seek a detailed report from local administration and police. In past cases, the Punjab government has announced compensation packages for the families of victims involved in major accidents, and it is anticipated that similar steps may be taken following this tragedy.

Meanwhile, police have initiated legal proceedings and are examining the van to determine its mechanical condition at the time of the crash. Statements from the driver, if alive, and other passengers will also be recorded as part of the investigation. Authorities aim to establish accountability and identify whether negligence played a role in the fatal accident.

As the investigation continues, the loss of four lives, including women and a child from the same family, has cast a shadow of sorrow over Sargodha. The tragedy serves as a grim reminder of the urgent need for improved road safety measures, stricter enforcement of traffic laws, and greater public awareness to prevent such devastating accidents in the future.
