Karak: Security forces in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have killed eight terrorists involved in a deadly attack on a police mobile in Karak district, police officials confirmed on Tuesday. The operation was carried out following an exchange of fire between police and the attackers, bringing a swift response to one of the most serious recent assaults on law enforcement personnel in the area.
According to police sources, the terrorists had targeted a police mobile in Karak, resulting in the martyrdom of five police officials. The attack sent shockwaves across the province and prompted an immediate security operation to track down and neutralize those responsible. Acting on intelligence and pursuing the attackers, police units engaged the militants in a gun battle, during which eight terrorists were killed.
Police officials stated that among those killed was a highly wanted terrorist identified as Arif alias “Don.” He was reportedly involved in multiple militant activities and attacks against security forces in the region. Law enforcement agencies had been searching for him for a long time due to his alleged role in planning and executing terrorist operations, including attacks on police personnel.
The successful operation was described by police as a significant blow to militant networks operating in the Karak and surrounding areas. Authorities said the terrorists were attempting to evade capture after carrying out the attack on the police mobile but were cornered following coordinated efforts by local police and security teams.
Earlier, the attack on the police mobile had resulted in the martyrdom of five police officials who were performing routine duties. The incident highlighted the persistent security challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where militants have occasionally targeted police and security personnel in an attempt to destabilize the region.
Following the tragic loss of the police officials, funeral prayers were held with full state honors. The funeral was attended by Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Afridi, the Chief Secretary, and Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Zulfiqar Hamid. Senior civil and police officials, along with colleagues and family members of the martyrs, also attended the solemn ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, provincial leadership paid tribute to the fallen police officials, praising their bravery, sacrifice, and commitment to protecting the lives and property of citizens. The Chief Minister expressed deep condolences to the families of the martyrs and assured them of the government’s full support. He reiterated that the sacrifices of police personnel would not go in vain and that the province would continue its fight against terrorism with determination.
Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hamid also commended the police force for its swift and decisive response following the attack. He said the successful elimination of the terrorists demonstrated the professionalism and courage of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police. He added that security forces remain fully alert and committed to maintaining law and order across the province.
Officials emphasized that operations against militant elements would continue until all threats to public safety are eliminated. Police sources said investigations are ongoing to determine whether the killed terrorists were part of a larger network and to identify any facilitators or hideouts linked to the group. Intelligence-based operations have been intensified in Karak and neighboring districts to prevent further attacks.
The incident once again underscores the risks faced daily by police personnel in areas affected by militancy. Despite these challenges, law enforcement agencies have reiterated their resolve to counter terrorism and protect citizens. Public representatives and community leaders in Karak also condemned the attack on the police mobile and expressed solidarity with the families of the martyred officials.
Over the past years, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has witnessed improved security conditions due to sustained counterterrorism efforts by police and security forces. However, sporadic attacks continue to pose challenges, particularly in districts bordering former tribal areas. Authorities maintain that such incidents will be met with firm and immediate action.
The provincial government has announced that the families of the martyred police officials will receive compensation and support in accordance with existing policies. Officials also stressed the importance of public cooperation in reporting suspicious activities to help security agencies prevent future attacks.
As the province mourns the loss of five brave police officials, the killing of eight terrorists, including a key militant figure, is being seen by authorities as a clear message that attacks on law enforcement will not be tolerated. The government and security institutions have reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring peace and stability in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, honoring the sacrifices of those who lay down their lives in the line of duty.
