Across Pakistan and various parts of the world, skywatchers gathered outdoors to witness one of the most spectacular astronomical sights of the year—the largest supermoon of 2025. The glowing, oversized moon illuminated the night sky and created a breathtaking visual experience, prompting thousands of people to step outside, take photographs, and share the celestial event on social media.
A supermoon occurs when the full moon coincides with the moon’s closest approach to Earth in its elliptical orbit, a point called perigee. This makes the moon appear larger and brighter than usual—sometimes up to 14% bigger and 30% more luminous compared to an average full moon.
Supermoon Sightings in Pakistan
In Pakistan, the supermoon was clearly visible in major cities including Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar, Quetta, Multan, Faisalabad, and Hyderabad. As evening fell and the moon began to rise above the horizon, skywatchers noticed its unusually large size and radiant glow.
In Karachi, families, students, and amateur photographers gathered along the coastline and open plazas to capture images of the moon illuminating the Arabian Sea. Many people shared pictures taken from the Clifton and Seaview areas, where the open horizon provided an unobstructed view. The cool sea breeze and the shimmering reflection on the water made the experience particularly memorable for those who were present.
In Lahore, the supermoon appeared above historical landmarks such as Badshahi Mosque and Minar-e-Pakistan, creating scenes that blended natural beauty with Pakistan’s architectural heritage. Photographers and hobbyists captured striking images of the moon positioned behind domes, minarets, and city skylines, which quickly went viral online.
Meanwhile, in Islamabad, the supermoon shone brightly above the Margalla Hills and Faisal Mosque. Many residents visited scenic viewpoints and walking trails to enjoy a clear view of the event. The moon’s glow cast a soft, silver light over the hills, adding a tranquil atmosphere to the night.
