LAHORE: A nine-year-old girl who had travelled from Dubai to Lahore to spend her school holidays with relatives has died after an incident at a private water park, with her family alleging gross negligence by the facility’s management.
The child, Rahmeen Fatima, reportedly drowned while swimming at a private water park near Jallo Morr. Police have arrested three individuals, including the park manager, and registered a criminal case as investigations continue.
Child Had Come to Lahore for Holidays
According to family members, Rahmeen Fatima had arrived in Lahore from Dubai a few days earlier to spend time with her maternal relatives in the Misri Shah area.
On July 13, she visited the water park with other children from her family.
Relatives said the children were enjoying themselves in the swimming pool when Rahmeen suddenly went missing.
Body Recovered from Drainage Manhole
After the child could not be found, family members informed the water park administration and began searching the premises.
According to the family, after an extensive search, Rahmeen’s body was recovered from the third drainage manhole connected to the swimming pool’s drainage system.
The discovery left her parents and relatives devastated.
Family Alleges Negligence
Rahmeen’s father, Muhammad Nadeem, said his daughter was the couple’s only child, born after nine years of marriage.
He alleged that the tragedy occurred because members of the water park staff had opened the pool’s drainage system while children were still swimming.
According to him, there was no protective safety grill covering the drainage opening.
He described the incident as more than mere negligence, alleging that opening drainage holes while children were in the pool amounted to a criminal act.
Police Action
Police responded to the incident by arresting the water park manager and two other individuals associated with the facility.
A criminal case has been registered, and investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the incident, including whether safety regulations were violated.
Authorities have not yet released the findings of the official investigation or determined legal responsibility for the child’s death.
Investigation Underway
The incident has raised renewed concerns about safety standards at recreational facilities, particularly water parks and swimming pools frequented by families during the summer season.
Officials are expected to review whether proper safety measures, including secure drainage systems, adequate supervision, and emergency response procedures, were in place at the time of the incident.
The investigation remains ongoing, and further legal action will depend on the evidence collected by the authorities.
