ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir on Saturday inaugurated the Sky 47 Data Centre, “Karakoram One,” in Islamabad, describing it as a major step toward strengthening Pakistan’s digital infrastructure and technological capabilities.
According to an official statement, the Sky 47 Data Centre is designed to provide a robust foundation for cloud computing, data hosting, and digital services, supporting the country’s ongoing digital transformation and expanding its capacity for secure data management.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the Sky 47 project would play an important role in enhancing Pakistan’s security and technological resilience.
“The Sky 47 project will provide Pakistan with an impregnable security framework. Projects like Sky 47 are a guarantee of Pakistan’s future,” the Prime Minister said.
He added that the nation had repeatedly demonstrated its ability to overcome difficulties through determination and unity.
“When challenges are met with hope and courage, historic achievements become possible,” he said.
The Prime Minister also paid tribute to Field Marshal Asim Munir, praising his leadership and vision.
“We acknowledge the visionary leadership of the Field Marshal. If we work together with unity, no goal is beyond our reach,” Shehbaz Sharif said.
Officials said the new data centre is expected to strengthen Pakistan’s digital ecosystem by providing advanced infrastructure for cloud services, secure data storage, and modern digital applications. The facility is also intended to support the growing demand for reliable data hosting and help accelerate the country’s digital economy.
The inauguration marks another step in Pakistan’s efforts to expand its information technology infrastructure and improve the availability of secure digital services for public and private sector organisations. Further details regarding the operational capacity and technical specifications of Karakoram One were not immediately disclosed during the ceremony.
