The Pakistan Navy has located the black box of a K2 Airways cargo aircraft that crashed into the sea in July this year.
According to sources, the Navy conducted a two-month-long search operation to locate the aircraft’s underwater wreckage despite the difficult and complex conditions at sea.
Using equipment developed by the National Engineering and Scientific Commission (NESCOM), Pakistan Navy vessels successfully identified the location of the wreckage and the aircraft’s black box at a depth of around 3,200 metres.
The Navy has shared the information about the successful identification of the black box with the Bureau of Air Safety Investigation.
The operation is being described as the Pakistan Navy’s first of its kind involving the detection of an aircraft’s black box at such a depth underwater.
The recovery and examination of the black box could help investigators determine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
