In a major diplomatic push to preserve the fragile Gaza ceasefire, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance, Jared Kushner — President Donald Trump’s son-in-law and Middle East envoy — and Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff have departed for Israel, aiming to prevent the collapse of the recently brokered Gaza peace agreement.
According to foreign media reports, the high-level American delegation will meet with Israeli officials to ensure both sides adhere to the terms of the ceasefire. Their visit comes amid growing international concern over renewed violence in Gaza and uncertainty surrounding the durability of the truce.
Hamas Delegation in Cairo for Ceasefire Talks
Simultaneously, a Hamas delegation led by Khalil al-Hayya has arrived in Cairo for separate discussions regarding the implementation of the ceasefire terms. Egyptian mediators, who played a pivotal role in facilitating the initial agreement, are expected to meet with both Palestinian and Israeli representatives to sustain momentum toward long-term stability.
A regional diplomat familiar with the talks said Egypt and Qatar were continuing to mediate discreetly between the parties. “The goal is to ensure immediate de-escalation and to prevent any misunderstanding that could reignite hostilities,” the source added.
