While many Italian regions have gained attention for selling homes for just a few hundred or thousand rupees, one picturesque area in central Italy is taking a completely different approach — it’s offering money to people willing to move there.
Yes, you read that right. In the heart of Tuscany, the charming town of Radicondoli, located near Siena, is offering newcomers up to $23,000 (over Rs. 6.5 million Pakistani rupees) as an incentive to settle in the area.
Once home to about 3,000 residents, Radicondoli’s population has now dwindled to just 966. Out of approximately 450 houses, more than 100 lie vacant, prompting local authorities to launch a creative plan to revive the town’s population and economy.
Originally introduced in 2023, the initiative offered $23,000 to individuals or families who purchased and renovated empty homes in the town. Additionally, new residents could receive up to €6,000 in support for transportation and other relocation expenses.
Recently, the scheme has been expanded — now, besides financial assistance for buying property, newcomers are also eligible to have 50% of their rent covered for the first two years.
The project aims to revitalize rural life and attract younger families or remote workers seeking peaceful, scenic surroundings with modern amenities. Authorities hope this strategy will breathe new life into the town’s streets, schools, and local businesses, preserving the centuries-old charm of Tuscany while securing its future.
