WASHINGTON: A US newspaper has claimed that an Iranian drone attack on Kuwait’s Shuaiba Port during the Iran–US conflict resulted in the deaths of six American service members, describing it as the costliest attack suffered by US forces during the war.
According to the report, the attack took place on 1 March, the second day of the conflict, when Iranian drones allegedly targeted a military facility at the Kuwaiti port.
The newspaper reported that, in addition to the six fatalities, dozens of US military personnel were injured, with several of the wounded said to be in critical condition.
The report described the incident as the most significant single loss suffered by the US military during the conflict.
Citing accounts from personnel who survived the attack, the newspaper alleged that US military commanders had ignored prior warnings about the vulnerability of the targeted installation.
According to the report, senior commanders had been informed that the facility was not adequately protected and could become a target, but sufficient preventive measures were allegedly not taken before the attack occurred.
The newspaper did not specify the sources of the reported warnings or provide additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding the alleged security concerns.
The claims have not been independently verified, and there has been no immediate official confirmation or response from the US Department of Defense regarding the newspaper’s report.
Similarly, there has been no official comment from Iranian authorities on the allegations contained in the report.
If confirmed, the reported attack would represent one of the deadliest incidents involving US forces during the conflict and could prompt further scrutiny of military preparedness and force protection measures.
Military analysts note that ports and logistics facilities are often considered strategic targets during armed conflicts because they play a crucial role in supplying and supporting deployed forces.
The newspaper’s report has renewed debate over the effectiveness of threat assessments and the importance of acting on intelligence warnings during military operations.
As of now, the details remain based on the newspaper’s reporting, and independent verification of the claims has not been made public. Official investigations or statements, if issued, may provide further clarity on the reported incident.
