KARACHI: MSC Erica, one of the world’s largest container ships, has arrived at Karachi Port, marking another significant milestone for Pakistan’s maritime and port operations.
According to a spokesperson for the Karachi Port Trust (KPT), the mega container vessel measures 398.5 meters in length and 59 meters in width, making it one of the largest container ships currently operating in international shipping.
The spokesperson said the arrival of MSC Erica reflects Karachi Port’s capability to accommodate ultra-large container vessels and handle high-volume cargo operations.
During the vessel’s stay at the port, more than 3,000 containers are expected to be loaded and unloaded as part of scheduled cargo handling activities.
KPT officials said the operation is expected to be completed efficiently before the vessel continues its voyage.
After completing cargo operations at Karachi Port, MSC Erica will depart for China, according to the port authority.
The arrival of one of the world’s largest container ships is seen as a positive development for Pakistan’s maritime trade sector and highlights the operational capacity of Karachi Port to serve major international shipping lines.
