GILGIT: The Gilgit-Baltistan Election Commission has disqualified Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Fida Muhammad Nashad in compliance with a ruling of the Supreme Appellate Court.

According to Chief Election Commissioner Raja Shehbaz Khan, the decision was implemented after the court found that Nashad had concealed assets, rendering him no longer eligible under the constitutional standard of being “Sadiq and Ameen” (truthful and trustworthy).

The Chief Election Commissioner said the disqualification was carried out in accordance with the judgment of the Supreme Appellate Court.

Fida Muhammad Nashad had been elected from Constituency GBA-9 (Skardu-III) in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly.

Following his disqualification, the seat has become vacant.

Raja Shehbaz Khan announced that the official schedule for the by-election on the vacant constituency will be issued on Monday.

The Election Commission is expected to release details regarding the nomination process, polling date, and other electoral arrangements once the by-election schedule is formally notified.

The disqualification follows the court’s findings regarding asset concealment, and the Election Commission said it is implementing the ruling in accordance with the applicable legal framework.
