Lahore: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed that a four-team One-Day tournament will be held in August as part of the national team’s preparations for the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup.

According to the PCB, the tournament will take place before the start of the domestic first-class season.

Speaking about the initiative, Director of High Performance Aaqib Javed said that with approximately 18 months remaining until the 2027 World Cup, it is the right time to begin building a strong pool of players.

“We are organizing this tournament to create a larger pool of players ahead of the World Cup,” Aaqib said.

He added that the selection committee and coaching staff jointly designed the tournament, which will feature all of Pakistan’s white-ball players.

According to Aaqib Javed, selectors and coaches will form the playing XIs based on the specific roles of individual players, allowing them to assess combinations and identify the best talent moving forward.

He also confirmed that the matches will be televised, ensuring that every player’s performance is closely monitored and evaluated.

Aaqib stressed that Pakistan’s ODI team should be ranked among the top four teams in the world, saying that anything lower is unacceptable.

“Pakistan’s ODI ranking should be in the top four. Being below that is not acceptable, and we are determined to make a significant improvement in the rankings,” he said.
