Sukkur (Danish Rajput): The installation of modern Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) smart meters is progressing rapidly in SEPCO Sukkur Sub-Division II, with nearly half of the project already completed.

Speaking to the media, SDO Sub-Division II Mushtaq Ahmed Qureshi said that more than 4,000 smart meters have so far been installed, covering approximately 50 percent of the subdivision’s service area. Installation work in the remaining areas is continuing in phases.

He explained that the AMI smart meters will enable automatic online meter reading, eliminating the need for manual readings and significantly improving the accuracy and transparency of the billing system.

According to the SDO, the new technology will also facilitate real-time monitoring of electricity consumption, meter performance, and technical operations, allowing the power utility to manage the distribution network more efficiently and respond more quickly to operational issues.

Mushtaq Ahmed Qureshi said that once the project is completed, the entire Sub-Division II will be shifted to a modern online metering system, resulting in faster, more transparent, and more reliable services for electricity consumers.

He added that the phased installation of smart meters in the remaining localities is continuing and expressed confidence that the project will be completed in the near future, bringing substantial improvements to customer service and the overall power distribution system.
