MENLO PARK: Meta is testing a new feature for Facebook that will allow users to see the view count of their posts—something that has not previously been available on the platform.

According to reports, the feature is currently being tested with a limited number of users before a wider rollout.

View Counts for Post Creators

Under the new system, the post view count will appear on the main post display. However, the information will only be visible to the person who created the post.

The feature is intended to give users a better understanding of how many people have viewed their content, enabling them to evaluate the performance of their posts more accurately.

Beyond Likes

Until now, Facebook users have primarily relied on likes, comments, and shares to measure the popularity of their posts. Meta believes these metrics alone do not always provide a complete picture of audience engagement.

By introducing view counts, the company hopes users will gain deeper insights into the type of content that attracts the most attention.

Focus on Content Discovery

Meta has increasingly emphasized view-based metrics as its recommendation algorithms continue to prioritize content based on users’ interests.

Today, a significant portion of the posts shown on Facebook and Instagram comes from accounts that users do not follow or have as friends, with the platforms’ algorithms recommending content likely to match individual preferences.

Limited Testing for Now

The feature remains in the testing phase, and Meta has not announced when—or if—it will be rolled out to all Facebook users worldwide.

If introduced globally, the new tool could provide creators and everyday users with a more detailed way to track the reach and performance of their content beyond traditional engagement metrics.
