HYDERABAD: Sindh Minister for Education Syed Sardar Ali Shah visited the globally acclaimed Government Girls Lower Secondary School Tando Mir Ghulam Hussain in Latifabad, Hyderabad, where he officially announced its upgradation to a Government Girls High School and pledged further investment in infrastructure and modern educational facilities.

The visit came after the school earned international recognition by becoming one of the Top 10 finalists in the Community Collaboration category of the T4 Education World’s Best School Prizes 2026, bringing distinction to Sindh and Pakistan on the global stage.

The ceremony was attended by Hyderabad Mayor Kashif Shoro, officials from the Education Department, teachers, students, parents, and representatives of the local community. During the visit, the provincial minister interacted with students and teachers, toured classrooms, and reviewed the facilities currently available at the institution.

Expansion of School Facilities

Recognizing the school’s growing academic achievements and increasing enrollment needs, Syed Sardar Ali Shah directed officials of the Education Works Department to immediately initiate the construction of additional classrooms and establish a modern STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) laboratory.

The minister said the upgradation of the school to the high school level would enable girls in the surrounding area to continue their secondary education without having to travel to distant institutions.

He described the move as part of the Sindh government’s broader commitment to strengthening public education and ensuring that successful schools receive the resources necessary for continued growth.

A Model for Public Education

Addressing the gathering, the education minister praised the school for setting a new benchmark for public education by earning global recognition through community participation and academic excellence.

“This school has brought honor not only to Sindh but to the whole of Pakistan,” he said. “Its achievement proves that government schools can compete at the highest international level when teachers, students, parents, and the local community work together.”

He emphasized that meaningful community participation is essential for improving public schools, urging citizens to consider supporting and monitoring their neighborhood government schools as a shared national responsibility.

According to the minister, the government’s decision to upgrade the institution was not merely symbolic but part of a practical effort to reward outstanding performance by expanding educational opportunities and improving infrastructure.

Encouraging Excellence

Syed Sardar Ali Shah reaffirmed that the Sindh government would continue supporting talented students, dedicated teachers, and high-performing public schools across the province.

He said schools demonstrating excellence would receive priority attention through improved facilities, teacher development, and investment in modern educational technologies.

The minister stressed that effective leadership, committed teachers, and motivated students can transform public schools into institutions capable of achieving international standards.

“Government schools are fully capable of attaining global recognition when provided with proper opportunities, effective leadership, and continuous support,” he remarked.

School Showcases Achievements

During the visit, the school’s headmistress briefed the minister on the institution’s achievements in national and international competitions, innovative teaching methods, and community partnership initiatives that contributed to its international success.

She highlighted the school’s focus on student-centered learning, active parental involvement, and collaborative educational programs that have strengthened both academic performance and community engagement.

The education minister commended the school’s administration for its vision and leadership, while appreciating the dedication shown by teachers and the enthusiasm demonstrated by students.

Community Appreciation

Parents and members of the local community welcomed the government’s decision to upgrade the school and thanked the education minister for paying special attention to its development.

Community representatives expressed confidence that the additional facilities and high school status would benefit hundreds of girls by providing access to quality secondary education within their own locality.

International Recognition

Government Girls Lower Secondary School Tando Mir Ghulam Hussain, located in Latifabad Unit No. 9, Hyderabad, recently achieved a historic milestone by being selected among the Top 10 finalists worldwide in the Community Collaboration category of the T4 Education World’s Best School Prizes 2026.

The prestigious competition attracts thousands of schools from around the world, with only a small number selected as finalists in each category.

According to officials, only two Pakistani schools were shortlisted this year—one private school from Punjab and the Government Girls Lower Secondary School Tando Mir Ghulam Hussain from Sindh—making the achievement particularly significant for the province’s public education system.

Congratulating the school administration, headmistress, teachers, students, parents, and community members, Syed Sardar Ali Shah said the recognition represents far more than the success of a single institution.

“This achievement is a source of pride for Sindh’s public education system and for Pakistan as a whole,” he said.

He credited the accomplishment to strong school leadership, hardworking teachers, enthusiastic students, supportive parents, and active community involvement.

Government’s Vision

The minister reaffirmed that the Sindh government would continue strengthening quality education through teacher professional development, promotion of STEAM education, and expanded community partnerships to help more public schools achieve international recognition.

Speaking at the event, Hyderabad Mayor Kashif Shoro also congratulated the school on its remarkable achievement, describing it as a matter of great pride for the city.

He assured participants that the Mayor’s Office would extend full cooperation to the institution and support initiatives aimed at enabling more girls to access quality education.

The visit concluded with renewed commitments from provincial authorities, educators, and community representatives to build on the school’s global success and further strengthen public education across Sindh.
