Jhelum: More than 600 residents of Jhelum have received free land allotment letters under the “Apni Zameen Apna Ghar” (My Land, My Home) housing initiative launched by the Punjab Government.

The program, introduced under the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, aims to help low-income families become homeowners by providing free residential plots.

According to officials, a total of 730 applications from Jhelum district were approved under the scheme. Successful applicants were allotted three-marla residential plots, and more than 600 beneficiaries have already received their allotment letters.

Minister of State for Finance and Railways Bilal Azhar Kayani distributed allotment letters to more than 400 beneficiaries during a ceremony held on Sunday.

Congratulating the recipients, Kayani said he was pleased to participate in the event and described home ownership as a basic dream of every individual. He stated that the government was fulfilling its promise of helping citizens obtain homes, adding that delivering on public commitments has been a longstanding tradition of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

He also said that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has already helped thousands of families across the province obtain housing through various initiatives.

Referring to federal housing efforts, Kayani noted that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has launched the “Prime Minister Apna Ghar” concessional loan scheme at the national level. Under the program, eligible applicants can obtain housing loans of up to Rs. 10 million through participating banks at a subsidized interest rate starting from 5 percent.

Providing details of the selection process, Kayani said that 5,942 applications were submitted through the official online portal in Jhelum district. After verification by the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), 4,303 applicants were declared eligible.

Following further scrutiny by the district revenue department, 730 successful applicants were selected through a transparent computerized balloting process.

The minister added that more than 600 deserving beneficiaries, including senior citizens, women, and persons with disabilities, have already received their allotment letters.

He further informed recipients that beneficiaries under the Punjab government’s housing scheme can also apply for an interest-free loan of up to Rs. 1.5 million from the Bank of Punjab to help finance the construction of their homes.

At the ceremony, several beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and Bilal Azhar Kayani, thanking them for the opportunity to own residential land and move closer to building a permanent home for their families.
