Islamabad: Pakistan is observing the 27th martyrdom anniversary of Captain Karnal Sher Khan (Nishan-e-Haider), one of the country’s most celebrated military heroes, who embraced martyrdom during the Kargil conflict on July 5, 1999 while fighting on the front lines.

The nation paid tribute to Captain Karnal Sher Khan for his extraordinary courage, bravery, and sacrifice in defending Pakistan. His actions during the conflict continue to be remembered as a symbol of unwavering patriotism and devotion to duty.

To mark the anniversary, a floral wreath was laid at the martyr’s grave during a commemorative ceremony. A smartly turned-out contingent of the Pakistan Army presented a guard of honor in recognition of his exceptional service and sacrifice.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also paid tribute to Captain Karnal Sher Khan, describing his supreme sacrifice as one of the brightest chapters in Pakistan’s military history.

In his message, the prime minister said that Captain Karnal Sher Khan’s unmatched courage and devotion to the motherland represent the highest traditions of valor, loyalty, and patriotism. He stated that the martyr’s legacy continues to inspire generations of Pakistanis and members of the armed forces.

Shehbaz Sharif said that the sacrifice of Captain Karnal Sher Khan serves as a reminder that Pakistan’s freedom, sovereignty, and security have been secured through the blood and sacrifices of its martyrs.

The prime minister further emphasized that the nation stands united with its armed forces against all external and internal threats, reaffirming the country’s commitment to safeguarding its independence and territorial integrity.

Captain Karnal Sher Khan was posthumously awarded the Nishan-e-Haider, Pakistan’s highest military gallantry award, in recognition of his exceptional bravery during the Kargil conflict. His courage under fire and steadfast leadership have earned him a lasting place among Pakistan’s most honored military heroes.

Each year, his martyrdom anniversary is observed with ceremonies and tributes across the country to honor his service and to remember the sacrifices made by members of Pakistan’s armed forces in the line of duty.
