Pakistan white-ball head coach Mike Hesson has said that work is underway on building a strong One-Day International (ODI) squad with the upcoming World Cup in mind.
Speaking on the PCB podcast, Hesson emphasized that the team is continuously being shaped to ensure the best possible combination for the tournament over the next one and a half years.
He highlighted that Pakistan needs to improve its batting performance in the middle overs, saying this phase of the game remains a key area requiring greater effectiveness and consistency.
Hesson noted that the recent white-ball training camp provided an excellent opportunity to assess new talent. He said that while young players have potential, they still require more time, experience, and development to reach international standards.
The head coach stressed the importance of patience when working with emerging players, adding that consistent opportunities and proper guidance are essential for long-term success.
He also pointed out that Pakistan is focusing on improving wicket-taking ability during the powerplay overs and maintaining greater consistency in bowling performances. According to him, improved fitness levels across the squad will also play a major role in enhancing overall results.
Hesson described the upcoming series against Australia as a valuable opportunity for young players to showcase their abilities against a strong and competitive side. He urged fans to support both the team and emerging players during this phase of transition.
