Karachi Police has banned the use of officers’ photographs and other material promoting their personal identity in official publicity, directing all units to focus instead on the institution’s performance, public service and image.

Additional Inspector General of Police Karachi Azad Khan issued the directives to all police units and officers through a circular.

Under the new instructions, photographs or portraits of serving police officers will not be displayed on banners, billboards, hoardings, posters or other promotional material.

The restrictions will apply across all platforms and locations, including police vehicles and buildings, public places and social media.

The circular said the purpose of official publicity was not to promote the personal image of individual officers but to highlight Karachi Police’s institutional identity, performance and services to the public.

An exception has been made for photographs of police personnel who were martyred in the line of duty. Their pictures may be displayed respectfully at commemorative events and other authorised occasions held in their honour.

The circular warned that responsibility would be fixed in case of violations and action would be taken against those concerned.

It said the Karachi Police’s objective was to highlight the institution’s service, performance, and public trust rather than to promote individuals.
