KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) closed lower on the first trading day of the week on Monday, with the benchmark KSE-100 Index shedding 199 points.

The KSE-100 Index settled at 176,966 points, down 199 points from the previous close.

Meanwhile, gold prices in the domestic market increased by Rs4,200 per tola, taking the price to Rs487,136, according to rates issued by the All Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Sarafa Association (APGJSA).

The price of 10 grams of gold rose by Rs3,601 to Rs417,640, according to market data.

Gold prices have remained volatile throughout the week, reflecting sharp movements in the international bullion market.

Gold is widely viewed as a safe-haven asset, with demand often increasing amid economic uncertainty, inflation concerns, geopolitical tensions and changing expectations about monetary policy.

The latest rally highlights continued volatility in both domestic and international bullion markets, with investors closely watching global economic indicators, currency movements and central bank policy signals.
