The Punjab government on Wednesday imposed a 30-day ban on flying drones in open spaces across the province, citing security concerns.
According to a notification issued by the provincial Home Department, the ban was imposed by the Punjab home secretary under Section 144(6) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898.
According to the Home Department spokesperson, limited use of small drones will be permitted for covering events held inside halls and marquees.
Event organizers will be responsible for ensuring the safe use of drones during such gatherings.
Intelligence and law enforcement agencies have been exempted from the ban.
The Home Department has also established district-level “Safe Drone Usage Committees” to grant written permission for drone use in approved cases.
According to the notification, the committees may authorize drone use for agricultural, irrigation and research purposes.
Drone operations covered by written permission from the relevant committee will be exempted from the ban.
The provincial government said public safety, the maintenance of law and order, and the protection of property were its key priorities behind the decision.
Administrations and police across Punjab have been directed to ensure strict compliance with the orders during the 30-day restriction period. The Home Department announced in Lahore on October 28, 2026.
