MIRPURKHAS: A woman who converted to Islam from Hinduism and subsequently married a Muslim man according to Islamic law has appealed to the relevant authorities for protection, claiming that members of her former community are threatening her life.
According to a report by Khuda Bakhsh Chohan, the woman, identified as Balqees Sheikh, originally belonged to Jaffar Khan Jalbani village near Chambar. She told the media outside a court in Mirpurkhas that she had previously been associated with the Hindu faith and was known by the name Mehani Bheel.
Balqees said she became interested in Islam and, after being influenced by the teachings of the religion, embraced Islam in Samaro in the presence of Pir Agha Jan Sarhindi. Following her conversion, she said, she was given the Islamic name Balqees Sheikh.
She further stated that after accepting Islam, she married Rajab Ali Solangi in accordance with Islamic law. The couple appeared before a court in Mirpurkhas in connection with their marriage.
Speaking to the media after appearing in court, Balqees alleged that some of her relatives and members of her former community had become hostile following her conversion and marriage.
She named Babu Bheel, Pyaro, Somar Bheel and Gulab Bheel, among others, and alleged that they wanted to kill her and her husband by accusing them of Karo Kari.
Balqees expressed concern for her safety and said she feared that the individuals she had named could pose a serious threat to her life. She appealed to the relevant authorities to take immediate notice of the situation and provide protection to both her and her husband.
The newly married couple urged law enforcement authorities and other concerned officials to intervene before the situation escalates. They requested that adequate security arrangements be made to ensure their safety and allow them to live peacefully.
The case has drawn attention to concerns surrounding personal security, religious conversion, marriage choices and alleged threats against couples in parts of Sindh. The couple’s appeal now rests with the relevant authorities, who have been urged to investigate the allegations and take appropriate action according to law.
Balqees reiterated that she had embraced Islam of her own choice and had married Rajab Ali Solangi according to Islamic law. She called upon the authorities to respect their legal rights and ensure their protection from any alleged threats.
The couple maintained that their primary concern was their safety and appealed for immediate protection from the individuals they said were threatening them.
