Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has described terrorism as a major threat to the province, saying Punjab faces greater security risks from terrorism coming from other provinces than from a neighboring country.
Speaking at the launch of an Artificial Intelligence Hub in Lahore, she said billions of rupees were being spent on strengthening security and that there would be no compromise on law and order.
Maryam Nawaz said security threats were also emerging from border areas, while the situation in the riverine “Kacha” region had improved with the support of the army and Sindh government. She said joint check posts had been strengthened to prevent threats from entering Punjab.
She added that the new Intelligence Hub would serve as an important platform for coordination among security agencies.
The chief minister also highlighted challenges posed by organized crime, street crime and child abuse. She said strict enforcement of helmet laws for motorcyclists was another difficult but necessary decision.
Maryam Nawaz further warned of indiscriminate action against corruption, saying no one involved in corruption would be spared. She claimed Punjab’s corruption situation was better than that of other provinces, while acknowledging that corruption had unfortunately become deeply embedded in society.
