LARKANA (Bureau Report): PPHI Larkana District Manager Junaid Ahmed Soomro has said that 93 dispensaries and hospitals have been established under the PPHI programme in Larkana district, of which more than 30 health centres remain operational round the clock.
He said the 24-hour facilities provide treatment as well as maternity services, with relevant staff available at all times. According to monthly statistics, around 1,000 normal deliveries are conducted at these health centres every month. He expressed these views yesterday while speaking to a delegation of journalists.
He further said that timely supply of medicines is ensured at all PPHI health centres. Medicines are delivered to hospitals and dispensaries across the district between the 1st and 7th of every month so that sufficient stock remains available throughout the month and patients do not face inconvenience.
Junaid Ahmed said emergency treatment is also available at the 24-hour health centres during night hours. Doctors, labour-room staff, operating-theatre personnel and other relevant employees perform their duties in three shifts.
Regarding electricity, he said uninterrupted power supply has been ensured at the concerned dispensaries and hospitals, while solar systems have also been installed at several centres to maintain continuity of electricity.
The district manager said a cold-storage room has also been established at the warehouse for medicine storage. Emergency medicines, injections and specific medicines used in labour rooms are safely stored there and supplied to relevant health centres according to requirements.
He said a regular system is in place to ensure the quality and expiry dates of medicines. Special software identifies medicines approaching their expiry dates, after which they are returned to vendors and replaced in time, ensuring that patients receive safe and quality medicines.
Junaid Ahmed Soomro further said medicines provided by different donors are also utilised according to need. A monthly list of required medicines is prepared, with efforts made to deliver supplies to all hospitals and health centres in the district by the 7th of each month.
He said no negligence in the supply of medicines would be tolerated and adequate stocks are maintained at all health centres. If a shortage of any particular medicine occurs at a centre towards the end of the month, the software immediately identifies the requirement and the medicine is supplied accordingly.
He added that the warehouse has four exits to ensure the safe evacuation of staff in an emergency, particularly in case of fire, while necessary fire-safety equipment is also available. Different types of medicines, including syrups, capsules and temperature-sensitive medicines, are stored separately at designated locations.
Junaid Ahmed Soomro said PPHI was making every effort to ensure that all medicines were delivered to hospitals and dispensaries on time and according to the prescribed procedures, so that no health centre faced a shortage or exhausted its stock.
He said a separate section for data and stationery had also been established at the warehouse, from where doctors’ pens, pads, family-planning cards, discharge cards and other essential materials are supplied to various health centres across the district.
He said PPHI’s primary objective was to ensure quality healthcare facilities, timely medicines and emergency medical services for people close to their homes.
Police Claim Arrest of Human Trafficking Gang, Rescue of Woman
LARKANA (Bureau Report): Larkana police, in collaboration with officials and personnel of sensitive institutions, have claimed to have arrested a gang allegedly involved in human trafficking and the buying and selling of women, and rescued a woman from their possession.
According to a statement issued by the SSP Larkana, police, along with officials and personnel of sensitive institutions, conducted a raid in the Bakhtawar Park area within the jurisdiction of Sachal Police Station.
During the operation, the alleged human trafficking gang was arrested and a woman identified as Neelam alias Neeli alias Muskan was recovered from their possession. A case has also been registered against the suspects.
The arrested suspects were identified as Ghulam Sarwar Brohi, Mubarak Panhwar and Zahida alias Shama.
