SUKKUR: Traders in Gharibabad and other narrow streets of the city have been forced to carry out cleaning activities on their own due to what they describe as an inadequate sanitation system.
According to traders, they sweep the roads and areas around their shops every morning before opening their businesses, while municipal staff reportedly arrive later only to collect the accumulated waste.
The business community questioned the performance of the Municipal Corporation and the Mayor’s Office, alleging that their attention remains largely focused on major roads such as Military Road and Bandar Road, while smaller streets and neighborhoods are being neglected.
The traders stressed that Gharibabad and other residential and commercial areas are also part of the city and should receive the same sanitation services.
They questioned why permanent sanitation staff had not been deployed despite traders regularly paying taxes and other municipal charges.
The traders demanded that permanent sanitation teams be deployed in Gharibabad and all other neighborhoods and streets, with a uniform cleaning system implemented across the city.
They also called on the Municipal Corporation to fulfill its basic responsibilities and ensure regular and effective sanitation services for citizens and the business community.
