A bus accident in Egypt’s South Sinai region has killed 16 people and injured 29 others.

According to a foreign news agency, the injured were shifted to different hospitals following the accident.

The South Sinai Peninsula is a popular tourist destination, known for activities such as diving and snorkeling along the Red Sea.

Egypt’s Healthcare Authority Chairman Dr Ahmed El-Sobky said the injured were initially taken to the Al-Mazina Family Medicine Centre for medical treatment.

He said several injured passengers were later transferred to Sharm El-Sheikh International Hospital, St Catherine Hospital and Al-Fayrouz Medical Complex.

The Healthcare Authority expressed condolences and sympathy to the families of those who lost their lives in the accident.
