Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that Russia believes Iran is fighting for its interests and freedom, adding that he is pleased to see Iran standing up for itself.
Speaking during a meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, Putin said Moscow fully supports the Iranian people in their efforts to defend their interests.
Putin expressed regret that the peace previously established had not proved lasting. He said that despite the current military and political situation, Russia and Iran would continue maintaining their economic and trade relations.
The Russian president reiterated that Moscow views Iran as fighting for its interests and independence and said Russia was pleased to see the Iranian people defending their position.
During the meeting, President Masoud Pezeshkian thanked Putin for Russia’s position regarding the war in Iran and the sanctions imposed as a result of the conflict.
Pezeshkian said Russia and Iran are strategic partners and are working together to confront what he described as unilateral and aggressive actions by the United States.
The Iranian president accused the United States of killing students, innocent young people and other civilians, saying such actions were illegal.
Pezeshkian also said Iran was aware of Russia’s support and therefore Iran would continue to stand alongside Russia.
