Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan have signed several agreements and memorandums of understanding covering trade, climate change, counterterrorism, information technology, education, science and technology, and culture.
The agreements were signed during a ceremony in Bishkek attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Kyrgyz president. The two leaders also held a joint press conference after the ceremony.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed the Pakistan-Kyrgyzstan Transit Trade Agreement, calling it an important development for bilateral relations. He said both countries want to increase bilateral trade to $200 million and will work to simplify trade-related regulations.
Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan would encourage stronger business ties between their private sectors and cooperate in the fight against terrorism and extremism.
The two countries also agreed to cooperate on climate change and expand collaboration in education, science and technology, and culture.
The prime minister welcomed the formation of a joint ministerial group to advance the CASA energy agreement. He also said Lahore and the Kyrgyz city of Osh would be declared twin cities to promote cultural and people-to-people ties.
Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan wanted to further strengthen its brotherly relations with Kyrgyzstan, adding that the signing of the various agreements marked the beginning of greater bilateral cooperation.
