Karachi: A major joint operation by Task Force Karachi and a federal civil intelligence agency has reportedly exposed an international drug-smuggling network operating in the city.
Acting on a tip-off, authorities conducted a coordinated operation within the jurisdiction of Korangi Industrial Area Police Station. According to officials, the network was involved in smuggling crystal methamphetamine (ice) and ketamine by concealing the drugs in different shipments.
During the operation, more than 50 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine was recovered, while several suspects were arrested. Authorities identified Nazir Soomro as the alleged mastermind and shipment sender, while Shahid Mastoi was reportedly responsible for managing the warehouse.
Other arrested suspects included Sheikh Khalid, who allegedly provided a location for storing drugs and a bank account for local financial transactions; Noor Khan and Gran Khan, both Afghan nationals holding Pakistani CNICs, who were allegedly involved in supplying ice from Balochistan; and Nasir Ali, who allegedly facilitated the transportation of the drugs.
Officials said two additional suspects, Muhammad Kamran, a police constable from Malir, Karachi, and Abdullah alias Arif, were arrested while allegedly delivering a sample shipment containing another 10 kilograms of ice.
Two pistols were also reportedly recovered from the arrested suspects.
Authorities further identified Shah Ji, allegedly responsible for supplying ice from Balochistan and receiving payments through the informal hawala system, and Waqar Hussain as fugitives. Raids are reportedly underway to arrest the remaining suspects.
Cases have been registered against the arrested drug suspects at the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) Police Station, while further investigation is continuing.
The authorities said Task Force Karachi has intensified its operations against organized drug-trafficking networks and will continue taking action against those involved in the illegal trade.
