  1. WASHINGTON: Fuel and food ingredient prices have increased in the United States amid the Iran war and higher tariffs imposed by the Trump administration, adding to concerns among consumers and farmers.According to US media reports, diesel prices in the country have reached their highest level since the outbreak of the Iran war. The US Department of Energy said the average weekly price of diesel increased by 20 cents per gallon, reaching $5.65 per gallon.Sources in the American Automobile Association said that if diesel prices rise by another 20 cents per gallon, they could reach their highest level since 2022.The increase in fuel prices is also creating difficulties for the agricultural sector. According to a US newspaper, American farmers are facing higher costs for fertiliser, fuel and agricultural machinery due to government policies and increased tariffs.Higher fuel and agricultural input costs are putting additional pressure on farmers, who are already dealing with rising operating expenses. Increased transportation and production costs could also eventually affect food prices and add to inflationary pressures on American consumers. The latest increase in diesel prices has raised concerns across the US economy because diesel is widely used in transportation, agriculture, construction and other industries. Any sustained increase in fuel costs can raise the expense of transporting goods and operating farm machinery.Farmers are particularly vulnerable to higher diesel and fertiliser prices because both are essential inputs for agricultural production. Rising costs could put pressure on farm incomes and potentially contribute to higher prices for agricultural products. The developments come as the US administration continues to pursue tariff policies aimed at protecting domestic industries. However, higher tariffs can also increase the cost of imported goods, raw materials and equipment used by businesses and farmers. With energy and agricultural costs moving higher, concerns are growing that American households could face additional pressure from rising food and transportation expenses in the coming months.
