An objection raised by the Supreme Court Registrar’s Office against a contempt of court petition filed by Uzma Khan, sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, has been removed, and the petition has now been assigned a case number.
Uzma Khan had filed the contempt petition against the government in connection with the issue of transferring Imran Khan to a hospital for medical treatment. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar and other officials were named as respondents in the petition.
The petition seeks Imran Khan’s transfer to Shifa International Hospital for medical treatment and calls for his medical examinations. The legal move comes amid PTI’s continued demands that Imran Khan receive appropriate medical care and undergo necessary medical tests.
According to reports, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan and Secretary General Salman Akram Raja also visited the Supreme Court in an effort to have the petition fixed for an early hearing.
The Supreme Court Registrar’s Office had initially returned Uzma Khan’s petition after raising an objection. According to sources, the registrar’s objection stated that the petitioner had not provided a list detailing the allegations of contempt of court against the respondents.
PTI subsequently addressed the objection and re-filed the petition before the Supreme Court. Following the removal of the objection, the Registrar’s Office formally assigned a number to the contempt petition.
The petition has been registered as Contempt Petition No. 8 of 2026.
The development clears an administrative hurdle for the petition and allows the matter to proceed through the Supreme Court’s legal process. The court will determine whether the petition meets the relevant legal requirements and whether the allegations raised by the petitioner warrant further proceedings.
The case centers on the dispute over Imran Khan’s medical treatment and his possible transfer to a hospital. His sister has sought judicial intervention, arguing for his access to medical care and diagnostic tests.
The petition names several senior government officials as respondents, including the prime minister and federal ministers. However, the assignment of a case number does not itself mean that the Supreme Court has accepted the allegations of contempt or issued any substantive order against the respondents.
The latest development is therefore procedural in nature. The removal of the registrar’s objection means that the petition has successfully cleared the initial filing requirement after the petitioner supplied the information that had been identified as missing.
The matter is now expected to move forward according to the Supreme Court’s procedures, with the next significant step being the fixing of the petition for hearing. PTI leadership has been seeking an early hearing of the case in connection with Imran Khan’s medical treatment and proposed hospital transfer.
The controversy comes as the former prime minister remains at the center of several legal and political disputes. His medical care and access to treatment have repeatedly become issues of political and legal significance, with PTI leaders calling for appropriate medical facilities and independent medical assessments.
For now, the key development is that the registrar’s objection to Uzma Khan’s contempt petition has been removed and the case has been formally numbered 8/2026, allowing the petition to proceed within the Supreme Court.
