The Punjab Home Department has granted arms dealers an additional 10 days to complete their registration and enter inventory details on the Punjab Arms License Portal. The extension comes after arms dealers requested more time to comply with the government’s new digital inventory system.
According to a spokesperson for the Punjab Home Department, a training workshop on the digital inventory system was recently held to help arms dealers understand the process of entering their records on the online portal. More than 350 arms dealers from across Punjab participated in the workshop, where officials explained the procedure for submitting the required information and maintaining digital records.
The department said the additional 10-day extension was granted in response to requests from arms dealers who sought more time to complete the online registration process. Under the revised schedule, September 6, 2026, has been set as the final deadline for dealers to enter details of their existing stock as well as records of purchases and sales.
The move is part of the Punjab government’s efforts to digitize and centralize the record-keeping system for the arms trade across the province. Once the process is completed, records of arms dealers’ transactions will be available digitally, allowing the relevant authorities to maintain a more organized and accessible database.
The Home Department spokesperson said that out of a total of 413 registered arms dealers in Punjab, 230 had already entered their information into the digital inventory system. This means that more than half of the registered dealers have completed the required process, while the remaining dealers have been given additional time to comply.
Officials emphasized the importance of completing the registration and inventory process before the new deadline. Dealers are required to provide details of their existing stock and maintain records of purchases and sales through the designated online system.
The digital inventory initiative is expected to improve transparency in the arms trade by replacing or supplementing traditional record-keeping with an electronic database. The availability of transaction records online could also make it easier for government authorities to monitor licensed dealers and verify information when required.
The Punjab government has been working to modernize its arms licensing and record-management system through digital platforms. The Punjab Arms License Portal provides a centralized mechanism for handling information related to arms licenses and associated records.
The training workshop was intended to ensure that dealers understand the technical requirements of the system and can enter their information correctly. With hundreds of dealers attending the session, officials were able to explain the online registration process and address questions regarding digital inventory submissions.
The department’s decision to extend the deadline gives dealers who have not yet completed the process another opportunity to comply. However, with September 6 now established as the deadline for entering existing stock and transaction records, dealers are expected to complete the process within the extended period.
The figures provided by the Home Department indicate that 230 of Punjab’s 413 registered arms dealers have already submitted their information to the digital inventory system, while approximately 183 dealers remain to complete the process.
The digitization of arms dealers’ records is expected to provide the provincial authorities with a more comprehensive picture of the licensed arms trade in Punjab. By keeping information about inventory, purchases and sales in a centralized digital system, officials will be better positioned to maintain updated records and monitor compliance with applicable regulations.
The Punjab Home Department has therefore urged the remaining registered dealers to use the additional 10-day period to complete their online registration and inventory submissions. The September 6 deadline will apply to the recording of existing stock and purchase-and-sale information, according to the department’s spokesperson.
