Inspector General of Police Sindh Javed Alam Odho Monday directed police to adopt heightened security measures across the province, with particular focus on Karachi, foreign nationals and upcoming Rabi-ul-Awwal gatheringsl.
The directives were issued during a high-level meeting on law and order held at the Central Police Office, attended by additional inspectors general, deputy inspectors general and senior superintendents of police.
Officials briefed the meeting on the overall security situation in Karachi and other parts of Sindh.
The meeting also reviewed Operation Nijat-e-Mehran, security arrangements for foreign nationals and preparations for Rabi-ul-Awwal gatherings and other major public events.
Odho directed police to ensure comprehensive security arrangements for important events and public gatherings and called for extraordinary measures in Karachi in view of the prevailing situation.
He ordered that snap checking, patrolling and picketing be made more effective across the city and said suspicious activities should remain under close surveillance.
The IG Sindh also directed police to closely monitor criminal elements and their possible networks in the katcha areas and ordered strict, indiscriminate action against those involved in unlawful activities.
He said police officers and personnel should continue performing their duties with full commitment until crime is brought under control.
Odho said no negligence would be tolerated in the security of foreign nationals and directed senior officers to personally visit the field and review security arrangements.
He also instructed officers to properly brief subordinate staff and ensure effective supervision of personnel deployed on duty.
