The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday granted pre-arrest bail to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Seemabia Tahir in a case registered under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA).
Justice Khadim Hussain Somroo approved Seemabia’s bail application and directed her to join the investigation being conducted by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA).
Earlier, a trial court had rejected her interim bail after she failed to appear before the court.
On March 26, 2024, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Rawalpindi granted bail to Seemabia Tahir in May 9 cases. The ATC judge Ijaz Asif heard the case and granted her the bail.
Earlier, on March 16, 2024, the Rawalpindi bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) also granted interim bail to former MPA Seemabia Tahir Satti in a case related to interference in the state’s affairs.
The decision comes in response to a case filed against Seemabia Tahir at the Airport Police Station. Her legal counsel shed light on the intricacies of the case, providing insight into the circumstances surrounding Tahir’s interim bail.
Seemabia Tahir served as a member of the Punjab Assembly from August 2018 until January 2023 after being elected on a women’s reserved seat on the PTI ticket.
She contested the 2024 National Assembly election from NA-57 Rawalpindi-VI on a PTI ticket but was unsuccessful. Tahir has a Master of Education degree and previously worked as a lecturer at Al-Khair University in Rawalpindi.
