Thunderstorm Rain Likely in Karachi; Pleasant but Warm Weather Expected During Ramadan

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast thunderstorm activity with light to moderate rain in Karachi, while predicting generally pleasant weather conditions during the upcoming month of Ramadan.

Speaking on Geo Pakistan, Deputy Director PMD Anjum Nazir Zaigham shared details about the approaching weather system. He explained that a westerly wave is expected to begin affecting Karachi around 2 to 3 PM tomorrow. The system will initially impact the city’s western districts before spreading to other areas. Under its influence, residents may experience thunder and lightning along with light to moderate rainfall in different parts of the city. However, he clarified that there is no likelihood of heavy downpours.

According to the PMD official, gusty winds are also expected during the weather spell. While the rainfall may not significantly lower temperatures, it is likely to make the atmosphere more pleasant and reduce the intensity of dry conditions. The combination of cloud cover and winds could offer temporary relief from the prevailing warm weather.

Anjum Nazir Zaigham further noted that temperatures in Karachi may rise again toward the end of the week. On Friday and Saturday, the mercury could reach up to 35 degrees Celsius. He attributed this expected increase to the movement of the rain-bearing system toward the west or northwest, which would allow northeastern winds to dominate in Karachi. During February, these northeastern winds typically do not bring cold conditions, meaning the city is unlikely to experience a noticeable drop in temperature.

Despite fluctuations in daily temperatures, the overall outlook for Ramadan appears favorable. The PMD expects generally pleasant weather throughout the holy month. While extreme heat is not anticipated, daytime temperatures may still feel relatively warm, especially during peak afternoon hours when sunlight can be intense. Fasting individuals may therefore feel the sharpness of the sun during midday, even if overall conditions remain manageable.

Meteorologists suggest that the expected rainfall, although light to moderate, could help settle dust and improve air quality temporarily. However, residents are advised to remain cautious during thunderstorms, particularly due to the possibility of strong winds and lightning.
