Lahore: The Legal Advisor of the Kite Flying Association, Advocate Malik Faizan Ahmed, reported that over Rs 1.22 billion worth of kite strings were sold in Lahore during the four-day Basant festival. He added that kite prices increased on the fourth day, but availability remained ample.
According to Malik Faizan, over one million kite sets and more than 20,000 spools of kite string were sold in the markets on the fourth day alone. Prices ranged from Rs 700 for one-and-a-half “tawa” kites, Rs 400 for a single “tawa” kite, and Rs 300 for a “puna tawa” kite. Two-piece kite spools were sold for Rs 12,000 to Rs 15,000.
He broke down the sales over the four days: Rs 160 million on the first day, Rs 180 million on the second, Rs 200 million on the third, and Rs 680 million on the fourth day.
Markets in Inner Mochi Gate, Islampura, Sandha, Samanabad, Nonarian, Achhra, and other areas saw continuous trading of kites, kite sets, and spools throughout the festival.
Malik Faizan emphasized that kite flying remains a cultural highlight of Basant, contributing significantly to local commerce and providing business opportunities for small and large vendors alike.
