ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to adopt an effective strategy to encourage investor participation in the privatization process of power distribution companies (DISCOs).
Chairing a review meeting on the privatization of DISCOs and the restructuring of the Privatization Commission, the Prime Minister emphasized that the interests of consumers must remain the top priority throughout the privatization process.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed that all stages of DISCOs’ privatization should be completed within the stipulated timeframe and in a manner that ensures profitability. He also ordered that ongoing institutional reforms and restructuring of the Privatization Commission be completed within one month.
The Prime Minister further instructed that internationally recognized financial, legal, and information technology experts should be included in the Privatization Commission to strengthen its capacity.
He also stressed the need to ensure that recommendations from highly professional and experienced consultants are incorporated into the privatization process to make it transparent, efficient, and aligned with international standards.
