ISLAMABAD/RAWALPINDI: Heavy rainfall in Rawalpindi and Islamabad has turned the weather pleasant, while several areas of Lahore also received rain, bringing relief from hot and humid conditions.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, significant rainfall was recorded in different parts of Rawalpindi. The highest rainfall figures included 47 millimetres in Gowalmandi, 44 millimetres in Kacheri, and 28 millimetres in Pirwadhai. Other areas also received rainfall, including 32 millimetres in New Katarian, 27 millimetres in Bokra, 23 millimetres at the PMD station, and 19 millimetres in Shamsabad.
Managing Director of WASA Rawalpindi said that staff equipped with heavy machinery were present in low-lying areas to deal with any emergency situation. He added that blockages in drainage channels caused by previous rains had been removed, while monitoring of city drains and Nullah Lai was continuing.
He said water flow in the drains remained normal and uninterrupted, with teams remaining alert to handle any possible urban flooding situation.
Meanwhile, rainfall was also reported in various parts of Lahore.
The Meteorological Department stated that a combination of weak monsoon currents and a western weather system is affecting northern parts of the country. As a result, more rain is expected today at several places in Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir.
