KARACHI: A controversy has emerged over the post-mortem report of Mir Raza, with Police Surgeon Dr. Samia Syed pointing out what she described as serious shortcomings in the report prepared by Dr. Usama Sheikh.

Dr. Samia Syed wrote a letter to the SP East, highlighting several alleged deficiencies in the post-mortem examination report. She stated that X-rays of the body were not conducted, chemical analysis of suspected gunpowder traces at the entry wound was not carried out, and photographs were not taken according to forensic standards.

In her letter, Dr. Samia said that the report did not provide a clear explanation regarding the bone injuries associated with the entry and exit wounds. She pointed out that the size of the entry wound was recorded as significantly larger than the exit wound, adding that both wounds required re-examination and verification.

She further stated that samples from the hands for gunpowder residue testing were not collected. The report also failed to clearly mention the condition and extent of decomposition of the body, while DNA samples were not obtained despite the face being unidentifiable, which was necessary for confirmation of identity.

The police surgeon also recommended that exhumation of the body could be carried out if required for further investigation.

Meanwhile, Karachi Police Chief Azad Khan said that police proceed on the basis of reports submitted by Medical Legal Officers (MLOs). He added that if there were any issues or deficiencies in the report, they should have been corrected immediately.

The matter has raised further questions regarding the investigation process, with authorities now considering additional forensic steps to clarify the circumstances surrounding Mir Raza’s death.
