Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has submitted the names of its preliminary squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup to the International Cricket Council (ICC), sources confirmed. The move ensures that Pakistan meets ICC requirements ahead of the tournament scheduled to begin in February.

According to sources, the PCB sent the names of a 15-member primary squad along with reserve players to the ICC. The board has the flexibility to make changes to the squad before January 31 without requiring ICC approval. After this date, any modifications will require permission from the ICC’s Technical Committee.

The preliminary squad includes players from Pakistan’s recent tour of Sri Lanka, along with key stars such as Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, and Haris Rauf. Sources indicate that PCB intends to finalize the squad for the T20 World Cup and the subsequent series against Australia based on performances during the Sri Lanka series. The board is reportedly observing one or two players’ performances in Sri Lanka to decide on final selections.

The ICC T20 World Cup is scheduled to start on February 7, with matches being held in India and Sri Lanka. Pakistan’s team will play all its matches in Sri Lanka.

This early submission of squad names allows the PCB adequate time for preparation and planning, while also enabling the ICC to complete necessary approvals and tournament logistics. The inclusion of both established stars and reserve players reflects PCB’s strategy to balance experience with emerging talent for the global event.

With the T20 World Cup approaching, Pakistan aims to field a competitive team and maintain its strong performance in international T20 cricket. The final squad announcement is expected after the conclusion of the Sri Lanka series, providing a clear view of players’ form and readiness for the World Cup campaign.
