KARACHI: The father of murdered Karachi-based trader Mir Ali Raza has alleged that police have yet to record the family’s statement, expressing concern over what he described as inconsistencies in the ongoing investigation.
Speaking to reporters at the City Court, Mir Hussain said the family has been relying on media reports to understand the direction of the investigation. He criticized investigators for focusing on issues unrelated to the murder, including reports of alleged financial difficulties.
“They talk about financial problems one day and something else the next. Even if my son had debts, the entire country is under debt. We are talking about a murder, but the investigation appears to be moving in another direction,” he said.
Mir Hussain also questioned the absence of Dr. Usama, the doctor who conducted the post-mortem examination, asking why he was unavailable. He said the family was distressed by the decision to exhume the body for further examination and demanded a thorough inquiry into why the victim’s identification was allegedly compromised.
He further claimed that police had still not recorded the family’s statement and accused investigators of presenting one version of events to the family while conveying another to the public.
“We were only provided with the investigation report after the issue received media attention. Our family is already going through immense pain, and all we seek is justice,” he added.
Earlier, the Judicial Magistrate (East) approved the family’s request for the exhumation of Mir Ali Raza’s body to facilitate further investigation into the case. The renewed examination is expected to assist investigators in clarifying the circumstances surrounding the trader’s death.
